Q.  How do I begin a real estate career?

  1. Complete a pre-license course through a state approved school.  We can provide you
    with a list of the schools that we recommend. The cost for this 60-hour course is
    approximately $400.
  2. Affiliate with a Broker (company).  Once the Broker in Charge signs your application
    form (it will be given to you when you pass the exam), you   will be issued an active
    Provisional license.  
  3. Your real estate career has begun.

Q. What does South Carolina require after I hold a license?

  • Within the first 15 months of your license date, you must complete a 30-hour post-
    license course.  
  • Your license renews every 2 years on June 30th.
  • To renew your license, you must complete 8 hours of Mandatory Continuing
    Education during each 2-year period.

Q.  What does it cost to get started?

    Your initial investment is approximately $2,000.  It covers licensing   costs, errors and
    omissions insurance, Association of Realtors fees,  MLS (multiple listing service) fees,
    initial costs for photography,   business cards, and equipment.

Q.  How much money do I make, how am I paid?

    This really depends on you.  Realtors are independent contractors, paid strictly on a
    commission basis ... no salary, draw, etc.  If you have the drive and willingness to work
    hard, real estate is a great career because there are no limits to financial success.
    Most hard-working agents can meet or exceed their required income needs their first
    year.

Q.  How do I choose a company?

    It is important for you to choose a company that meets your expectations in terms of
    training, technology, office support and reputation in the marketplace.  The key is a
    solid base of support from the Broker in Charge, being surrounded by other agents
